WE LOVE... THE HALFWAY MARK!

We've reached the halfway mark in our summer season and if last week was anything to go by, the arrival of August (and the Italians!) this week is set to be nothing less than a stampede here at We Love... Space!

The Detroit invasion in the Discoteca last week may have seemed like an attempt to deafen a few clubbers, but true to form, Jeff Mills and Derrick May were nothing short of brilliant. Loud, fast and brilliant. A big round of applause goes to We Love... resident Jem Haynes, who had the cavernous room filled up so fast we thought it was 3am already. He'll be back to do it again this week, and more times over the summer if you missed it.

And speaking even further of Jem - after the gig, we packed him up and shipped him off to the sunny shores of Montenegro to earn his keep, where he absolutely tore the room apart at our first ever We Love... event over there, saving the day by playing two sets when Serge Santiago failed to turn up for duty. Nice one!

Final props this week must go to Miss Kittin and her Republique concept, where she went back and forth with Steve Lawler for five hours, not only keeping the Terraza on its toes, but also adorning them with jewellery, handing out hundreds of necklaces from her new Lollipops collection to the audience. Ah Kittin, the gift that kept on giving!

Kicking off from the sunny hour of 4.30pm is Alex Wolfenden on the Sunset Terrace, setting the pace for Alfredo & Ian C. Then the artist formerly known as Cagedbaby, Thomas Gandey whips the room into a frenzy up until midnight, when we've got to lower the volume... however the trusty DJs Mr Doris & Mo Nunez will still be behind the decks until the dawn, to keep you entertained should you feel the need to chill out, away from the action in a rubadub world music stylie!

Our Terraza line-up is rocking this week, kicking off with resident Ian Blevins, warming up for the lovely Smokin J. Then it's over to the annual double act b2b performance by Jesse Rose and Heidi, before DJ Hell makes his entrance. We're looking forward to the return of Zombie Nation, who'll hand it over to Paul Woolford to close the room. Get a taster of what's to come in Wooly's new mix, available for download below.

We Love Space Sundays 2010

Having just about recovered from last week's massive Discoteca Detroit-fest, our earbuds are ready to get yet another taste of Jem Haynes opening the room, followed by Chilean producer Pier Bucci live and Kieren Hebden (Four Tet). We Love... fave James Zabiela is up next, and last, but certainly not least by any means, we'll be closing with Scottish legends Slam.

In El Salon, it's Black Rabbit vs Paradise 45, with residents Guy Williams and Bones joined by Pete Herbert (Reverso 66) to keep the Balearic disco vibes a-flowing. Speaking of Balearic, it doesn't get much more nu-Balearic than the rooftop Premier Etage with Ben Korbel, Mr Doris, Jamie Fatneck and Ian Blevins all on hand to out-Balearic each other with their magical mystery record boxes (or laptops as the case may be)!

Upstairs, The Burlington Project continues to attract the locals and off-duty We Lovers, with a special showcase by Wolf + Lamb's Zev and Soulclap, plus We Love residents Ryan O'Gorman, Andy Carroll and David Phillips.

All in a day's work!

We Love Blog
WE LOVE... LIFE BLOG!
Now we're in the thick of summer here on the island, regular intrepid We Love... bloggers Ruairi and Andy have been too busy to put their fingers to the keyboard and update the We Love... Life blog as often as we'd like, so we've enlisted the services of a very special guest blogger, Jonty Skruff, to keep you in the loop of all things weird, wonderful and We Love... Check out his first entry, an interview with We Love's Mark Broadbent on just how easy (or not!) it is for a DJ to be booked at Space.

How To Get booked at Space
HOW TO GET BOOKED AT SPACE
Ten years after he became the head booker at Ibiza's most credible and critically important party (We Love) at the island's most influential venue (Space), Mark Broadbent's advice for landing a gig is impressively (if deceptively) simple. 'Make friends with us,' he recommends...

Pursuing a policy of mixing big name 'underground' names (this season's stars include Carl Craig, Claude VonStroke and Joris Voorn) with rising talent (notably Deepgroove, Berghain's Marcel Dettman and Jesse Rose), We Love is broadly centred around techno, though Mark's keen to avoid being pigeonholed by genres.
