WE LOVE... IT'S A WRAP!

We Loved... Summer 2009. It was an epic 16-week journey, with all roads leading to last weekend's closing fiesta, which despite some ominous looking rain, thunder and lightning, was nothing short of a roadblock! Our biggest props go out to the 17 000+ ravers who braved the weather (let's be honest, there's something so liberating about dancing in a storm - why would you stay home?) and also, of course to the mega line-up of DJs who kept the tunes flowing until the last We Love... staffers were practically dragged out of the venue in broad daylight on Monday morning.

Check out the photos below or hit our website for the full gallery and you'll see that a picture really does tell more than a thousand words - from a sea of plastic ponchos and a score of multi-coloured umbrellas making the car park resemble a UK festival, to the scantily clad Foc I Fum dancers virtually weaving and floating their way throughout the club on stilts and wheels, flapping their butterfly wings and handing out fruit kebabs to boot, it was a visual extravaganza. Add to that the awesome pyrotechnics, streamers and glitter exploding from the roof, incredulous digital displays and our old faves, the ice cannons keeping everyone cool, and you'll see we pulled out all the stops for our last hurrah.

Musically, we'd like to give a resounding nod to the mighty Steve Lawler, who absolutely tore the car park apart with his closing set. Inside, Miss Kittin had the Terraza in raptures, right after 2ManyDJs had sent it into a frenzy and over in the Discoteca, Jeff Mills proved once again that he really is a techno genius after an impressive set by Martin Buttrich, plus an awesome closing set by the ever-energetic James Zabiela. This year's underground success, The Burlington Project in the Red Box packed a massive punch with guest Clive Henry (complete with hair!), though it was the faithful residents Jem Haynes and Ryan O'Gorman that had the room ram-raided by over enthusiastic ravers until the very end. And of course, a final mention must go to our Sunset Terrace headliners, Bestival's Rob Da Bank and the legendary Alfredo (who's given us a live set for you to download below).

So what's next? Well, now that the club's been put into lockdown for the winter (after a thorough scrubbing, cleaning and clear out), we've put all of our DJs on return flights back to their hometowns, we've emptied our offices of flyers, posters and merchandise plus deleted all those pesky emails in our inboxes, well... we just might take a bit of a holiday. Or we might start throwing some parties in far-flung locations and over on our neighbouring shores. In fact, we may have already begun plotting, planning and scheming The We Love... Sundays 2010 experience.

But if we told you, we'd have to kill you.

So in the meantime, stay tuned. We'll be bringing you monthly news and views from the island (yes it does indeed still function after the clubs close - in fact, sometimes we think this is the very best time to check it out), Podcasts, TV and DJ mixes to download over the chillier months - and don't forget you can always delve into our TV and radio archives on the website if you feel the need to relive those summer memories like we do.

Summer 2009. We came, we saw, we loved...

DJ Alfredo & Jaime Fiorito
DJ MIX: ALFREDO & JAIME FIORITO - Pt 1 & 2
He's regularly called the godfather of Balearic beats - and here at We Love... HQ we believe he's the reason we all have jobs today - and he's just wrapped up a mammoth 16-consecutive-week season headlining our famous sunset terrace (alongside percussive maestro Ian C) - we're talking about none other than the one, the only... drum roll please... Alfredo! For two weeks in September, Alfie played back to back with his son Jaime Fiorito (check out their interview in We Love... TV episode 14 for an insight into their world) and this was one family affair we thought was well worth sharing. Download their two-part mix below and you'll see exactly why We Love... Alfredo and Jaime live on the Sunset Terrace.
