INTRODUCTION
Roger C has been working as a professional DJ for over twenty years, spinning vinyl at many different types of venues around the world. Since April 2005, he has been based in Barcelona – djing & promoting locally, and using it as a base to play around Spain and the rest of Europe.

Roger C has played at a huge variety of events, from full-on dance clubs to squat parties and raves, from one of Sydney’s leading restaurants to bamboo shacks in the jungles of Thailand. From backyard barbeques in Bondi, to prestigious music industry events, like the International Live Music Conference and Australian Music week. Festivals such as the Quart Festival in Kristiansand, Urbanfunke in Barcelona, Cully Jazz in Switzerland and Beachdown 08 in Brighton.

In the last few years, he has warmed-up for many of todays’ finest funk & soul live bands – Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, The Breakestra, The Bamboos, The Sweet Vandals, The Dynamites feat Charles Walker, The Brooklyn Funk Essentials, Baby Charles, US3, Players & The James Taylor Quartet. He has also spun at events with a huge variety of acclaimed DJs: Russ Dewbury, Adrian Gibson, T.M.Juke, Talvin Singh, Black Grass, Eddie Piller, Henry Storch, Soul Jazz Sound System, Flow Dynamics, Jon Kennedy, Maxi Jazz, Zero db & Ben Mono, to name just a few.

Since leaving the UK, over ten years ago – Roger C has lived & worked in many cities around the world – From Camden Town to Brooklyn, Hackney to Hollywood, Madrid to Melbourne, Wellington to Koh Panang – There are few places left where he has not dragged a weighty bag of vintage vinyl.

MUSICAL STYLES
Roger C can deliver a wide and eclectic mix of styles, within his DJ sets, depending on the venue and the event. The music he plays, draws broadly from the last fifty-years of black music history: Deep Funk, Raw Soul, Dancefloor Jazz, Rhythm’n’Blues, Hammond Groovers, Afrobeat, flavoured with a little Reggae, Funky Movie Soundtracks and a pinch of Latin Boogaloo. He tries to maintain an equal balance of 60s / 70s classic & rare tunes, with new releases from the contemporary funk scene.

So you’ll hear some JB’s, The Meters & Marlena Shaw but also The Quantic Soul Orchestra, The Poets of Rhythm, New Mastersounds and fresh tunes from the modern Spanish scene. New music from labels like Freestyle, Unique, Daptone, Tru Thoughts, Ubiquity, Record Kicks and re-issues from Jazzman, Vampisoul and Soul Jazz.

Roger C can tailor his DJ sets to suit most types of audience and location – downbeat, low-slung with more of a jazz tendency, for lounge style events, for those who just wish to sit & relax. Or full-on driving funk, soul and floor shaking r’n’b / boogaloo, for the party people who’d rather dance all-night.

BARCELONA
Roger C has been promoting events and Djing in Barcelona for several years. Currently he is responsible for The Joint Sessions at Dos Trece, a weekly funk, jazz & soul event (formerly known as The Sunday Joint), which has been running continuously for four years – each week features guest Djs both local, national and international, specialising in different genres: Afrobeat, hip-hop, reggae etc. He has also just begun a new monthly event Solid Gold at Gran Foc, and is a regular guest DJ at the highly acclaimed Nuggets Club in Apolo (2). He was also a member of the steering committee of the Groovin’ Barcelona project, formed to show people that there was a lot more to the cities nightlife than just techno and minimal styles.
