After two years residency at cult Newcastle night Jaunt>, which Richard also promotes alongside 6 other friends, it’s fair to say his teeth have been finely cut in the fast moving and competitive clubbing world of the North East. Now, having also launched Jaunt> in London with great success and following 2 full seasons hosting the back room at Ibiza’s famous Savannah bar, it’s time to progress his solo career in equal measure.
Richard first became interested in the electronic scene in his teenage years, starting up Jaunt> after becoming disheartened with the lack of progressive and forward thinking nights in his area. With a musical taste ranging from the rolling sounds of deep house and techno to disco and straight up house, it’s fair to say his eclectic take on sound is apparent in his energetic and crowd pleasing sets. Ever since seeing the legendary Matthew Dear smash DC10’s dance floor back in 2007, Richard has been seeking out the more educated sounds of the underground scene and developing his own talents tenfold.
Through Jaunt> he has already held the DJ booth fort alongside the likes of Giles Smith, Dyed Soundorom, Miss Fitz and Dorian Paic, adding ever more to his breadth of musical knowledge and untold passion for the DJ scene. And these stellar gigs have already led to separate bookings everywhere from Leeds to London for longstanding nights including Back to Basics, and via world-class venues such as Privilege.
Now, with Jaunt> moving ever closer to a strong London presence due to its new monthly residency at one of the East’s coolest venues, as well as their recent invite to host the highly popular Red Box for We Love at Ibiza’s mammoth nightclub Space, things are only looking brighter for the dynamic music lover. Unrivalled experience and success at such a young age can only be admired, and as Richard’s individual music career progresses it’s likely you’ll be hearing a lot more from himself and the now unstoppable Jaunt> movement.
JAUNT> BIO
After only 2 and a half years on the scene, underground Newcastle night Jaunt> continue to snowball in popularity and develop their brand name amongst the North’s clued up music followers.
The brainchild of 7 close friends, all having grown up around the cities party scene since their school days, Jaunt> was originally housed in the intimate Newcastle venue Red Rooms where it made a name for itself mainly amongst friends of the group. But after demand far outweighed capacity, the night set up camp in one of the coolest and most well known venues in town, Cosmic Ballroom.
Having not only cast the city under the Jaunt> spell, the brand has also made the leap to the clubbing Mecca of Ibiza for the past two seasons to run their atmospheric events in the much loved back room in Savannah, a space well known amongst the islands workers as the place for many a debauched secret party, with an atmosphere perfect for a forward thinking, musically progressive brand such as this.
As we move further into 2010, Jaunt> continue to push things forward in the North, by spilling out enviable bookings that have already included Motor City Drum Ensemble, Robert Dietz, Chris Tietjen and Dinky amongst many others. More notably, in a market highly saturated with tech house nights, their open minded approach to the musical spectrum sees them serve up an eclectic mix of grooving house, techno, disco and deeper beats, that ceaselessly create a party vibe never failing to get their faithful crowd raving until the early hours.
With a monthly slot now at East London’s Russian Bar, parties up North in both clubs and their own secret warehouse, as well as collaborations with other promoters in the pipeline, now’s the time to catch Jaunt> in their element as the UK takeover continues.
