BIOGRAPHY

After only 500 single A-side vinyls of Retro/Grade’s first production MODA sold out in less than a week in the summer of 2009, it found its way and picked up the ears of tastemakers including Erol Alkan, - who called it “incredible”, Simian Mobile Disco, A-Trak, Annie Mac, Pete Tong - who made it one of his records of the year, Pedro Winter, Brodinski and more. The Guardian Guide proclaimed: if you asked Soulwax to write you an Italo disco tune, this is exactly what it would sound like http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2009/aug/15/new-singles-review .

A year on and Retro/Grade - the modern day italo disco duo comprising of Serge Santiago and Tom Neville – signed to Mike Pickering’s Deconstruction imprint and gave MODA the full release it deserves, backed with the double a-side of PULSAR - a massive, italo inspired, techno destroyer.

“Retro/Grade are the most exciting emerging underground artist we have signed to Deconstruction.  Really cool and credible Italo House that keeps Deconstruction’s foot in the warehouse, but also has massive potential to crossover next Summer.  We couldn’t be more excited to have them on our line-up.” - Mike Pickering.

With the heat on the duo rising from only one single - and after their Live debut for London’s disco connoisseurs Disco Bloodbath – Retro/Grade were the recent Live tour support for Groove Armada’s ‘Black Light’ album tour in Autumn 2010 and are set to follow with a DJ support for Goldfrapp’s Winter tour. As well as headline Live slots booked in Ibiza, UK, Germany, France and beyond.

“Retro/Grade to us encompasses everything electronic. We've taken influences from everywhere - films, artists, games; anything with emotion - using films like Bladerunner, Tron, even Rocky to help guild us… Writing music to scores has been a great way to get our mind focused on different points of the music and how it should all work. Cowley, Soccio, Morodor, Laven etc, helps us keep the energy level up in what we write, keeping it dance floor without conforming to today’s rules in how you 'should' produce.” – Retro/Grade

Expect their debut artist album MOTION coming early 2011.
