The September winner of our Fresh Blood competition is DJ Ed Lee, with his mix dubbed ‘Bufo Bufo'. Ed says he spends countless hours looking for those special records that make his style like no other, always looking in between the cracks to find things others have often missed and this is what really makes his mix stand out from the rest. On this mix, he says he wanted to make something that would stand the test of time - more of an after hours style with all sorts of styles from IDM, dub step, progressive, ambient, classical and jazz – what else can we say? We Love… it!

What I wanted to try and create with this is more of a soundscape of music than just a mix of one track into another. There's parts of this mix that have up to 5 tracks playing at the same time, be it a little vocal sample or a loop. I've tried my best to make it as seamless as possible. 

Like a lot of my others there's a element of a journey, a slow building one from start to finish to give it a sense of direction.

I've been very passionate about a new style of music that has been bubbling around the West Coast of America the past few years. There's some very talented producers out there and this mix represents some of my favourite finds over the past few months. To describe it I'd say it's a cross between breakbeat, hip hop, dubstep and idm. What I love about it is it's energy and groove, it has a slower grinding tempo. It's already formed a genre for itself which is called either Glitch Hop, Crunk Beats or my favourite one Lazer Bass.

'I wanted to have an essence of how I would play in the clubs for this mix. I've kept it quite positive in feeling and used different mixing techniques from micro editing to having a mixture of tracks playing at once. I feel this needs to be listened to from start to finish to really understand the journey I wanted to create… Anyway hope you like it, I've put a lot of work into this one.'
