Born Carlos Abraham Duque Alcivar in Ecuador, Abe Duque, also known as Kirlian, is a prominent artist in New York. Abe Duque moved to the NYC at the early age of 2, where he grew a passion for dance music. In 1983, he bought his first synthesizer and started playing in the church of his father, who was also a musician and an evangelical minister.
It was later in the 80’s when he met Victor Calderon and Gene Le Fosse from the techno duo Program 2 and started working with them professionally in a series of dance oriented productions.
In 1993, Abe founded his first own record label, Tension, where he started releasing his own material. A year later he founded a new label called second Rancho Relaxo Records, giving life to the legendary NYC party and electronic supergroup The Rancho Relaxo Allstrars. During this year Duque also started recording music for German Disko-b label under the alias of Kirlian with albums such as “Pleasure Yourself” and “Chicken Wings and Beef Fried Rice”.
In 1996, one of the funniest chapters in the history of music business happened when Abe Duque and Disko-b owner Peter Wacha did a bet over cigarettes and consequently Duque won the ownership of the label and finally he let Wacha keeping it with the promise of using it for the benefit of mankind. Three years later, Abe Duque founded Rapture Records along with DJ John Selway to concentrate in underground releases, refusing to promote their releases.
Duque has also worked with other artists such as John Selway, Gennaro Le Fosse, DJ Hell, Patrick Pulsinger, Richard Dorfmeister, and Jimmy Tenor. Some of the monikers he has worked under are the ones of Rancho Relaxo All-stars , Kirlian, Super Secret Symphony, Monkey Spank, New York Trance King, and Facil.

Last week’s one hour live set from international man of intrigue Abe Duque (who else do you know who went from being a minister’s son to a club kid to a US marine and then an international DJ?) was packed full of heavy vocals, acid house beats and had the Discoteca worked into a frenzy. In case you missed out, or if you want to re-live the moment, Abe’s been kind enough to give us a one-hour mix for you to download so you can listen again whenever the urge strikes!
