Mat Playford LATEST MIX

Space Terrace June 2010 by Mat Playford

This mix by Mat Playford was actually recorded live for Ibiza Sonica on the Space Terraza last month when he played for us – since then, he’s taken the mix and given it just a little studio finesse in all the right places.

Abe Duque DJ set 2009

Last week’s one hour live set from international man of intrigue Abe Duque (who else do you know who went from being a minister’s son to a club kid to a US marine and then an international DJ?) was packed full of heavy vocals, acid house beats and had the Discoteca worked into a frenzy. In case you missed out, or if you want to re-live the moment, Abe’s been kind enough to give us a one-hour mix for you to download so you can listen again whenever the urge strikes!

Alex Wolfenden - We Love... winter mix 2010.

Alex provides us with another great mix focusing on the house vibes which we know and love and which have made his sets on La Terraza so memorable.

Alfredo and Jaime Fiorito live on the Sunset Terrace 2009 Part 1

He’s regularly called the godfather of Balearic beats – and here at We Love… HQ we believe he’s the reason we all have jobs today – and he’s just wrapped up a mammoth 16-consecutive-week season headlining our famous sunset terrace (alongside percussive maestro Ian C) - we’re talking about none other than the one, the only… drum roll please… Alfredo! For two weeks in September, Alfie played back to back with his son Jaime Fiorito (check out their interview in We Love… TV episode 14 for an insight into their world) and this was one family affair we thought was well worth sharing. Download their two-part mix below and you’ll see exactly why We Love… Alfredo and Jaime live on the Sunset Terrace.

Individualism 3 part 1

An epic four part mix from Andy Baxter. Travelling through genres effortlessly and succinctly with a truly captivating flow. Individualism 3 is a must listen for anyone with the slightest interest in house music; great stuff.

Andy says about the mix:

'It’s that time of year again, when I dig out the obscure, special and eclectic selections that really stood out for me over the previous 12 months and mix them with a few old gems to create Individualism – an annual musical concept that is reflective of the sounds I enjoy listening to in my own home, covering the many styles of music that I love. Enjoy…'

Andy Hoskins - Freshblood 2008

Andy's deep selection had a nice Balearic feel to it, moving from the laidback vibes of Trusme and Peter Kruder, through the twitching funk of Trevor Loveys and Oliver, before finishing off with a Chris Isaak-sampling Jichael Mackson. We could picture ourselves grooving to these sounds as the Ibizan sun dipped behind the hills. Well done Andy!

Badlands - DJ Mix 2008

This DJ/production duo, Badlands, unique blend of fucked up beats, basslines and deeply twisted vibes are fast gaining them notoriety in the new underground house scene. With numerous residencies popping up throughout London, and recent releases picking up remix offers far & wide, this is one act to keep your eye on. These dirty beats connoisseurs will be joining Jem Haynes in the Chew the Fat Arena this Sunday for some base-led bumpin house action.

balErik - Freshblood -December 09

Hailing from Oslo, balErik has gained a big following in Norway and from the mix he sent us we can see why. Inspired by a set he played in a New York club, it's got that classic house sound that became synonymous with the Ibiza music scene. This mixed with some more modern techno tipped tracks lends itself to a great mix and a deserving winner.

02. Two Banks Of Four - Shadowlands (Season & Sygaire Remix)

03. Soul Renegades – Wont Let You GO

Ben Gomori Don't Forget To Go Home

It’s no secret that we love all types of great music here at We Love… HQ, which is why July’s Freshblood winner, Ben Gomori really impressed us with his Don’t Forget To Go Home mix. A slightly down tempo offering, with a wicked track selection that would work equally as well on the Premier Etage at Space as the sun goes down and planes fly overhead as it would at home during those early morning head nodding moments...

Ben Watt Live May 2009

To tempt you into the Terraza Arena (as if you needed an excuse!) this Sunday, here’s a little taste tester of what’s to come from Buzzin’ Fly boss Ben Watt, recorded live in London last month. Featuring new tracks by We Love… faves Joris Voorn and Spencer Parker (so good you NEED this remix by Michel Cleis, says Ben) plus the best of the Buzzin bunch.

  1. Ben Watt 'Guinea Pig' (M.A.N.D.Y. & Smallboy Remix) (Buzzin' Fly)
  2. Monty Luke 'Panic Attack' (Mothership)

Guy Williams - Paradise 45

Did someone say disco? They must have been hanging out (and cutting the rug) in El Salon on Sundays at Space recently, because believe us when we tell you, this is where the glitterball magic really happens. By day, an unassuming white lounge bar, but the minute the sun starts to fade, it turns into a retro-inspired groove-tastic rave space with the Black Rabbit crew.

Brodinski - MADPOD for Le Mouv mix

Hailing from France, producer/DJ Brodinski’s broad taste in music is reflected in his own productions and DJ sets which encompass noisy techno and bass heavy house through to more melodic minimal – you’ll get the chance to check him out this Sunday in the Discoteca. But until then, may we present to you his MADPOD for Le Mouv mix – it’s a creeper that flits from hectic and head pounding solid beats to electro-laced instrumentals laden with bleeps, squelches and plenty of dance floor appeal.

Collins 303 - Freshblood 2008

"In 1987 an acid house crazy DJ was sent to prison by a military court for a crime he didn't commit. He promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the East London old skool underground. Today, still wanted by the government, he survives as a DJ of fortune. If you need a party rocked , if no one else can help, and if you can find him, maybe you can hire the 303". That intro definately made us sit up & take notice. But what was to follow we weren't quite expecting. An outstanding mix of genre-smashing skills through hip-hop, soul, electro to block-rocking french disco. This mix has to be heard to be believed. Collins 303 is a man who is at the very top of his game, expect him to be on top of the pile very soon.

D.R.W live mix

Dan Rutledge - Freshblood.

Freshblood winner Dan Rutledge says this about his mix:

"With this mix I wanted to highlight not necessarily the individual tracks but the general flow and groove that I have been influenced by over the last 6 months. With house music in general taking some many different forms recently I wanted to focus on solid basslines and electronica elements alongside structures that work on a dancefloor."

Danny Howells live from the Bedrock - Part 2 of 2

Part 2 of Danny's mix takes things further into the peak time set showcasing a few more of the many strings to his bow.

Another cracker from our remix man Dave James.

"This is my first dj mix of 2010 and features some tracks that have been featuring in my gigs  for the last few months or so on the more discerning floors around the uk. Deepgroove Mix For We Love

This is the perfect mix for a blissed-out Balearic afternoon, feet dangling in the pool, sunshine glistening off the water with hum of cicadas completing the atmosphere. It's there for you whether you're looking to drift off gently through a pleasant afternoon of sun worship or need to repair your battered soul in the middle of a forty-eight hour marathon - guaranteed to get you prepped and ready to go out and fight the good fight once again.

We Love... Disco Bloodbath

A fabulous but ture tale of murder in clubland... or something like that. Or as a wise man once put it - 'Gay vampire disco for the blood sucking hords!' Either way we strongly recomend it.

DJ Lunik - Freshblood 2008

During the course of our Fresh Blood competition, we've received more than our fair share of minimal - tech - progressive style mixes. However, this one from Aberdeen based DJ Lunik has topped the rest by keeping all the best features of this genre pool - it's driving, energetic and just builds and builds throughout. There are some familiar names thrown into the mix (Sasha, Dubfire, Deadmau5) but these are well balanced by underexposed gems from underground artists and labels, including a production from Lunik herself. This girl is one to watch!

Mehdi - DJ Mix 2008

Ed Banging, Chair Dancing, Poster Boy for a musical revolution, DJ Mehdi has packed a weighty number of activities into these past few years. Displayed on this live mix are the skills that had us here at We Love...begging him to come back for more with the ed bangers crew, and so, to celebrate their WLS08 residency, commencing this Sunday we present an amazing mix.

DJ Pierre - Afro Acid Live

DJ Pierre has ver kindly donated one of his live radio sets from the fantastic pushfm.com. Taking in all things Chicago, this mix has been featuring heavily in the office soundtrack and has been taking us back to some of Pierre's standout sets in the Discoteca last summer. Looking forward to the new memories to come in 2010.

Ed Lee - Pica - The Animalis Collection (part 4)

Another masterpiece from Ed Lee...

'I wanted to have an essence of how I would play in the clubs for this mix. I've kept it quite positive in feeling and used different mixing techniques from micro editing to having a mixture of tracks playing at once. I feel this needs to be listened to from start to finish to really understand the journey I wanted to create… Anyway hope you like it, I've put a lot of work into this one.'

We don't just like it, we love it.

This time it is Lexx who has provided us with and exclusive 1 hour mix designed specifically to get you in the mood for the summer ahead and in particular the Folk Ibiza festival hitting the island at the end of July which will culminate with the manchester boys hosting the premier etage roof terrace at We Love... Space.

Frank Tope - DJ Mix 2008

Good friend and old favourite, Frank's been keeping a lower profile recently than we'd like. However he is back with a bang to rock The End in our final foray of our winter residency. On a mission to save house music from boredom with a fiercely energetic mixing style, digging deep into an immense record collection to throw in the last thing you'd expect at just the right time, Frank combines heavyweight basslines and Latin percussion with enough of his trademark acapella vocals and dubbed-out sound FX to turn any club inside out. Get up and Get Down with Frank.

Fucks n Kisses 08

After Playing In the Red Box  F&K decided to compile a celebratory  soundtrack. Their mix, over 4 decks, blends disco infused 80s techno with modern jackin' house it includes tracks from Yazoo, Tiefschwarz and Thomas Bangler.

We Love... it!

Gareth Cheshire - Freshblood 2010

Some disco house goodness from Mr Gareth Cheshire. Groovy, melodic, flowing and an all round well put together mix. Sophistication with a smile; just the way we like it.

Gareth has kindly written a few words about what and where this mix came from:

'It’s weird because a lot of times during my DJing some of the best results have come out of pretty dark times and this mix is the same. The start of the year I didn’t have a good run of luck, I had a couple of gigs cancelled and the worst viral infection I’ve had in years! Out of sheer frustration I decided to record a new mix and this was the end product.

It features the kind of music I like to play at CIRCUS, Pigeonhole Disco and the other nights I play at in Liverpool.

What that tends to be is disco influenced music from the past, present and future, but I also like to throw in some house and techno as well, something I’ve done here towards the end of the mix.
I hope you enjoy it!'

Generic People Mix Tape September 2009

Generic People are a group of party animals from Cork City in little old Ireland, who get drunk, party hard and perform far from ordinary DJ sets with a duel laptop set up synced together incorporating various pieces of hardware, controllers and trusted decks, a batch of VSTs, sound effects, loops, re-edits, remixes & original productions. Their impressive ‘Dark Disco Mix Tape’ was actually a LIVE mix using CDJs, Ableton, Trigger Finger, BCR 2000, Korg R3, Pioneer EFX 500, and VSTs (and if you don’t know what that is, google it!) spanning all forms of music and with a blatant disregard for genres. Listen up and you’ll see just how they impressed us!

Greg Wilson Live at We Love... Sundays 2008

Guy Williams Paradise 54 mix 2009

Did someone say disco? They must have been hanging out (and cutting the rug) in El Salon on Sundays at Space recently, because believe us when we tell you, this is where the glitterball magic really happens. By day, an unassuming white lounge bar, but the minute the sun starts to fade, it turns into a retro-inspired groove-tastic rave space. Master of ceremonies last week was Guy Williams, keeping the official Grace Jones after party on their toes for hours and hours, long after the last glitter cannon had been fired in the Discoteca. Want to recreate the action in your own living room? Download this mix (thematically kicking off with Guy’s own interpretation of Grace’s sound), get your disco boots on and get down to the sounds of El Salon… we’ll see you back there this Sunday!

Heidi's Varsity Workout

The queen of the Jackathon presents the Varsity Workout mix. Recorded live from the Get Physical party at the 2010 WMC the mix provides a short sharp blast of the sound which has made Heidi a firm favourite on the We Love... terrace.

Hook n' sling DJ Mix 2008

There's little doubt that genre blending house producer, Hook N Sling, is one of Australia's fastest rising DJ/producer stars. His tunes are used like weapons by a growing amount of DJs around the world, be they be specializing in breaks, electro or tech house. He's been coming up with solid gold of late, with numerous compliations for music magnates, ganing an Aria Nomination for a collaboration with Kid Kenobi, and scoring props from big league boys Pete Tong and James Zabiela. This is one fella to keep your eye on.

Ian Blevins investigates the hallucinogenic properties of cheese.

After a recent increase in his liking of cheese and its different types, Ian noticed that the later he indulged in this particular avenue of pleasure that his dreams and thoughts began to become increasingly more warped than previous. For good or for bad, he felt the need to provide some sort of soundtrack to this mind television to help him through the dizzying highs, the terrifying lows, the creamy middles and to loosen the claws of the large cheese monkey on his back. Sweet dreams.

Alfredo and Jaime Fiorito live on the Sunset Terrace 2009 Part 2

James Furness Podast - Jan 2010

Another stomper from James who says:

"This one was very much inspired by my visit to We Love in August. After hanging around the Terazza and catching some seriously chunky Techno - particularly from Tiefschwarz & James Zabiela - upon my return to the UK I decided it was time to turn my hand to trying to create a similar vibe in podcast form, with an hour and a half of House & Techno with a thunderous rolling bassline throughout..."

Zabiela Live 60 Min Set for We Love - July2009

Is it possible to encapsulate the energy and atmosphere of long-time We Love resident James Zabiela’s epic Sunday sets in a one-hour mix?

What you will hear on this exclusively recorded for We Love… mix: an effects-laden, tech-laced rave-athon of mythic proportions, getting you primed and ready for the Discoteca this weekend. What you won’t hear: The kerfuffle from behind the DJ booth as the We Love head honchos have to drag James kicking and screaming from his trusty Apple Mac when its time for the club to close…

A few words from our sponsor, the man himself Jon Howel:

'I wanted this mix to be a bit of lighthearted entertainment, as always i go on a bit of a journey with it, starting and finishing deep, but building up to be nice and jacking midway. I felt like it should have a old school feel, using a mix of current tunes, mixing up Deep, Tech, Dub, Soulful and U.S. House.'

Mark Murphy - Freshblood 2008

The final monthly Fresh Blood winner is Dublin's Mark Murphy. His mix is a refreshing blend of styles that we love at We Love...! Grooving minimal from labels such as Cadenza and Area Remote is juxtaposed with unashamed feelgood jacking tracks from the likes of JT Donaldson and We Love's favourite DJ Sneak, meaning there's something for every fan of quality house music. Well done Mark!

Beats & Pieces mix

The mix that started it all! What I feel is a timeless mix that seemed to bring a bit of attention my way over 5 years ago (it gave me my first Pacha & We Love... dj slots amongst others) & mixed live in my bedroom! Using strictly vinyl, no computers, editing techniques or tech wizardry & was actually recorded using a mini disc (remember them!). I think this mix shows my backroom/leftfield/hip hop styles to the fullest... there is also a homage to the late great Tony D at the start (although i didn't know it at the time of recording).

Nu Northern Soul July 2009 Mix

I  (Phat Phil Coooper) have been playing for We Love for quite a few years now and it is still the standout gig of the year for me... It like being asked to play football in the World Cup final, BIG!!!

But it's not just the DJ set, its the whole weekend which culminates in a music listening session back at Mark Broadbents gaff... trying to twist each other with blessed-out Balearic, deep Disco, sweet Soul, weird Jazz, Doom, Dub, Cambodian Pop, Punk Classical and beyond!!! This mix reflects all my times in Ibiza from the early days of 1992 watching A Man Called Adam live at the Cafe Del Mar through to my Cream residency days and getting messy with Lawler, Gooding and Bysie at Mambo and Amnesia through to Space now... A lot of flavors all loosely blended together with fond memories and love to create the NuNorthern Soul sound of today...

A bit of nerdy info here... The early days of playing Ibiza, I would have 4 or 5 boxes of records shipped over jam packed with vinyl for my 8 hour sets at Amnesia, now it's down to a laptop and midi controller in a back pack... Oh how times have changed!!!

Osmo - Freshblood 2008

We said we wanted to hear a variety of sounds from our Freshblood(08) entrants, and boy did we get that this month. After much deliberation we plumped for Osmo, who threw it all into the pot, from breaks to house to rave and beyond! Aimed squarely at the dancefloor, Osmo's mix is aggressive, but in a friendly way, with cuts from the likes of Bonde Do Role, Crookers, Jesse Rose and Bass Kleph. No wonder he's already getting noticed - and here's some more recognition of his talents - well done Osmo!

Paddy Freeform - Freshblood 2008

Phew, things are getting hectic here in Ibiza as we reach the peak of the summer season! So when we received this mix from Paddy Freeform, it was just lovely to kick back for an hour and let the downtempo grooves wash over us, an instant wind-down. Reflecting the laidback aspect of Ibiza perfectly, Paddy has stirred up an intoxicating brew of horizontal funk through to cheeky covers of magical pop moments. Sit back, relax and enjoy!

Solid Gold & Park Ranger 2009 mix for Chew The Fat!

Raffertie - Fabric London 2009

Hailing from the south coast and now based in Birmingham, Raffertie is the 21 year old DJ and producer whose innovative and down right filthy style has been smashing up the UK’s underground dance music scene for the last couple of years. Playing high energy, bass laden tunes Raffertie’s sets include everything from uplifting pop classics and 90’s rave anthems to the filthiest house, garage, grime and dubstep tracks, creating huge dance floor reactions that earned him a residency at Hold Tight in London.

Following a set of renowned bootlegs that ply all manner of tunes with sickening wonky basslines, his original productions that caught the attention of Radio1’s Mary Anne Hobbs who was so impressed she invited Raffertie to do a guest mix as part of her showcase of up and coming talent, describing him as ‘as sick as they come’.

Opened My Eyes

This recent mix is a reflection is of what you can expect from Rossko playing at one of his intimate basement parties in East London, a Sunday afternoon courtyard party or even a special after-after party in the early hours of the morning. Its a mixture of deep, dubby, rolling, positive technohouse vibes - defiantly for ones that know..!
Rossko takes pride in playing cutting-edge music and not afraid to be forward thinking in his sound, the art is being able to relate to the mood and the people on the dance floor, this is something Rossko is loving to learn and growing from his experiences each time he plays out..
Enjoy :-)

Serge Santiago - DJ Mix 2008

Serge Santiago has been at the forefront of the tech funk scene for nearly a decade now, initially as one half of forward thinking duo Radio Slave before venturing solo in 2005 and carving a niche for himself as one of the most unique young producers around. From turning the heads of legends such as Trevor Jackson to Damian Lazarus and ultimately, securing his residency for We Love...in 2007. It seemed like natural selection for Serge to accompany Riton to compile our widely acclaimed inaugural cd. Now as a follow up to that mix, and as a prelude to Serge's appearance at We Love...Chew The Fat we present

Smokin Jo Systematic September 2009

Smokin Jo has been ruling our covered terrace this summer and she’ll be rocking the room for one last time (in 2009 anyway!) from 10.30 this Sunday night. If you can’t be there (or if you need a little something to help get you in the mood), this one-hour mix she calls ‘Systematic’ (once you’ve turned your lights out and volume up) is the next best thing. A fresh and fierce tech-house mix with plenty of twisted sounds and thumping beats, it’s got plenty of oomph, attitude and makes us wish it were Sunday already…

Steve Lawler live in Ketamina

After two days without sleep Steve Lawler found himself in a restaurant in Moscow. The eatery come club was small, sleazy, low lit and named 'Ketamina'. To set the scene further the decor of the club took and Alice in Wonderland twist with people sat astride and underneath giant mushrooms. This mix takes a one one hour snippet from Steve's set showcasing very deep, trippy, slow, beautiful house music; a side to Steve's musical wanderings which contrasts in style but equals in quality his Terrace sets which have become synonymous with We Love… Space.

Tim Morrison - Freshblood

A great mix that had us hooked from the start. Quite difficult to describe the style but very listenable. We think Tim put it best himself:

With this mix I tried to encapsulate a broad scope of my tastes within electronic music with an emphasis on melodic content. I have edited most of the tracks to varying extents to keep an evolving flow throughout and have more control of the programming. Starting off at quite a slow tempo there's everything from disco to electronica, house, techno and acid. I like to keep a degree of eclecticism yet making sure everything relates and is cohesive as a whole which is always a challenge. It's hopefully something that can be enjoyed as home listening as well as in the club.

Yousef - Live at WLS08 -6 June - Pt2

Yousef, the liverpudlian DJ/Producer and founder of the infamous feverish acid house party 'Circus', has been busy carving his legacy across the global electronica scene for close on a decade now, after being propelled into the limelight in... with the Muzic Mag's Bedroom Bedlam comp. Relentlessly playing worldwide has given Yousef a mature & broad musical taste, twisting electronica with house, vocals with techno. We recorded his last set at Space, and have it for you here as a two part junket through Yousef's record collection

Zombie Nation September DJ mix

After knocking the proverbial socks off the Discoteca in his debut two weeks ago, Zombie Nation was invited back for an impromptu encore last weekend, much to our happiness (and those who were in the room) and now, Florian, the mild-mannered yet brain eating man behind Zombie Nation, has kindly given us another new DJ mix for your further aural pleasure… and to keep his sound fresh in our ears!
