We Love Vitalik – Summer 2011 Compilation by jozif & Ryan O’Gorman

Wednesday, September 21st, 2011

Way back in June (yes, so long ago) we started to let loose the 10,000 copies of this year’s annual compilation into the wild streets, bars, cars, apartments and villas these one-off musical souvenirs now call home. The We Love CD has become something of a collectable item over the past few years by the policy of giving something back to the people who make We Love what it is, you party starters, instigators and all round obliging, open minded crowd which are the essence of our party.

Be bear aware

Past labels who have contributed to the cause include Lawler’s Viva and Lawson’s 2020Vision but this time we chose to take on a less established but highly dynamic label Vitalik with a unique concept of a compilation consisting of entirely unreleased material. Unreleased is not to say unknown though, you’ll find plenty of We Love stalwarts from across the musical spectrum we create at Space, including The Mole, Appleblim and Martin Buttrich. There’s even a super limited vinyl release of these very three artists which you might just find in your local record emporium if you are quick enough. In all likelihood, you haven’t managed to get your hands on and ears round the physical version of the compilation, so we’ve handily put it up on mixcloud for your listening pleasure. There’s also the ever necessary DJ sympathetic unmixed version available from beatport et al.

We Love… Vitalik by We Love Space on Mixcloud

The mix itself was crafted by label boss / creepy uncle Ryan O’Gorman and We Love resident / wayward nephew jozif. Expect sultry grooves, colossal bass and an overall undercurrent of deep, driving house. The mix has been found to work with varying but always positive degrees of success on speedboat soundsystems, through underwater swimming pool speakers as well as through an iPod as you make your way back from these balearic climes to wherever it is you call home. Jozif’s debut as resident this year has been full of vigor yet always with that glassy sheen the terrace warm up needs – come see his last set of the summer this Sunday, September 25th.

Made to Play’s Jesse Rose.

This years opening party is set to define the Ibiza season as We Love… Space celebrate the seminal 20 Years of Planet E. Few labels have managed to stand the test of time and if they have, few can claim to be as relevant and influential as they were twenty years back. Planet E hasn’t just survived the last twenty years but positively revelled in it. Detroit techno mastermind Carl Craig will be joined by Derrick May and Paul Woolford, who have both recently presented the label with blistering releases. These masterminds will be joined by We Love weekly resident Jem Haynes to take control of the Discoteca for a rare and prestigious vinyl-only session in celebration of the label.

Meanwhile, the world famous Space Terraza plays host to James Zabiela showcasing his house sound for 2011. The Hot Chip DJs, Felix Martin and Al Doyle return for the first of their three date exclusive residency and Radio 1 current “In New DJs We Trust” favourite Heidi bringing the jackin’ sound’ o’ Chi’ Town with support from Made To Play’s Jesse Rose. Kicking off proceedings is We Love’s own Mat Playford playing a three hour live show using a customised analogue setup.

2011 brings new faces to share this summer’s series of events. Jaymo & Andy George’s label Moda host the Sunset Terrace before Mr Doris’ “Afterdark” project takes over after midnight. Ryan O’Gorman returns with The Burlington Project to host twelve intimate dates in the Redbox, the room for clued up locals and holiday-makers alike.

See you on the dancefloor! Tickets available from Space Ibiza, Ibiza Spotlight and Club Tickets.

jozif – Coca Grande (Mole’s MMD Mix)

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

A surreal account of genital surgery and general misadventure with The Mole. The soundtrack features a new release from our friends at Vitalik recordings, with amigos jozif and The Mole himself. Available from all good download stores and vinyl distributors.

Vitalik Recording was set up by Ryan O Gorman in 2009, its prevoius incarnation and namesake was synonymous with various forms of underground resistance and clandestine parties across Ibiza and thoughout London. Now with its sole agenda of releasing quality electronic music from upcoming artists; teaming them up with the most highly respected and talented producers trans genre; it focuses its energy firmly on good music and talent rather than a specific sound. Look out for a special Vitalik label night on Sunday August 8th this summer.

Cuemix Magazine

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

PDF magazines are a promotional tool used by companies and collectives in a similar way that ‘zines led the way of underground media in the latter half of the 20th century. PDF mags are usually independent ventures showcasing international creativity and culture. Most downloadable magazines like this are art and design based in their content (such as the fantastic photography magazine Romka, which you can read all about and download their inaugural four issues here). For some online magazines there appears to be very little editorial control for the scope and quality of work displayed. There is often an interesting mix of splendid effort and mediocrity. This can not be said however of our featured magazine this week – Cuemix.

Cosmic Mole

Cuemix is a magazine both for and about DJs. There is a sublime mix of excellent writing, colorful layouts, and good content. What initially caught my eye was interviews in the current issue with one of electronic music’s more eccentric characters The Mole – a highlight of Burlington Project’s Red Box residency at We Love… Space 2009.

Baldelli

The above is a photo of Danielle Baldelli who along with Marco Dionogi has mixed and compiled the fantastic “Cosmic Disco? Nah… Cosmic Rock!” album for Eskimo Recordings. He is from before the age when genres were rigid and terms like house meant cool (in the ’80s) or a genre (in the ’90s), his DJ sets knew no boundaries. He pitched down disco records as far as they would go and gave birth to the slow chugging Balearic sound.

All in all it’s a great read and one we can’t recommend enough, download that latest issue here. Incidentally, The Mole provided one of the best interviews this summer (also interviews with Busy P, Riton and PBR Streetgang and performances from Busy P, Ben Korbel, Hot Chip, Paul Woolford and Felix Da Housecat) check it out below…
