Top 5 2011 We Love Podcasts

Monday, December 19th, 2011

Sorry, we just couldn’t resist. Since everyone and their dog seems to be doing end of year lists here’s our top 5 We Love podcasts produced with the capable hands (and voice) of Andy Wilson. There’s also our top 5 behind the scenes type photos from Frank. Drum roll please…

At 5 it’s our closing party special. Plenty of bang for your buck here with 2 live sets and 2 live PAs from our Terraces. Rob Da Bank is in conversation and Adamski performs his classic ‘Killer’.

Can you at least get me backstage! Leaves us wondering what more than backstage would mean.

At number 4 it’s a personal fave from We Love HQ, Kompakt’s takeover where Superpitcher provides his 4 favourite tracks and chats about alfresco voodoo.

Rafter party

There’s a nice cross-section of the ethos of We Love at 3, with veteran Hell, and young guns jozif and Foamo. jozif tells us why he wants to be Paul Woolford and why he’s rolling with the sheep.

Careful inspection of Mezcal worms, before careless consumption.

Mat Playford talks about his debut album at number 2 and there’s sets from the club featuring likely lads PBR Streetgang and golden boy Joris Voorn.

Protip: Wearing a pretty dress and a winning smile will get you one more tune.

Our favourite podcast is Paul Woolford’s where he talks about hooking into Detroit, his famous Terrace edits and return of his alter-ego Bobby Peru.

The security guard literally jumping for joy to see the back of us... until next year!

jozif’s We Love Edits – Free Download

Friday, December 9th, 2011

It’s taken a while but we’ve finally got all jozif‘s ‘terrace edits’ in one place. Individually they are brilliant, but together you can get a really good picture of the sound he brought to his We Love Space residency over the summer.

First up you’ll find a fresh take on a track which has been re-edited by everyone from Jamie XX to Dave Guetta – a hard task to follow indeed! jozif manages it with his usual aplomb, taking Adele’s smash vocal to floppy disco territory.

Next there’s a sunkissed slice of balearica with just the right amount of surface noise. Uplifting vox and some Tensnake-esque shimmering synths ensured this went down a storm during jozif’s early doors terrace sets.

Finally he’s taken what can only be described as a classic and pulled it wider, made some space, and let that bassline breathe. Guaranteed dancefloor destruction and check out those strings!

If you’re one of the many thousands making the Hogmanay pilgrimage to Edinburgh this New Year then come party with us at Liquid Room where jozif will be spinning alongside Julio Bashmore and Deetron. More info, here.

We Love New Year Celebrations

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

It’s time to welcome the turning of the Mayan Long Count calendar. With that in mind we’ve lined up two showcases of the best of We Love on both sides of the border. First up is one of the biggest annual party’s in Scotland, Hogmanay in Edinburgh where the whole centre of town is taken over for a street party. Things will be warmer in the Liquid Room where Julio Bashmore, jozif, Deetron and a host of local residents are set to welcome in the bells with style. You’ll find tickets, here.

Check out this video made by the capable hands of Jocie Cox featuring jozif and the story behind his summer residency on the We Love Space terrace.

Next up we’re jumping on the east coast main line down to join a host of We Love stalwarts at our London home, Ministry of Sound. The lineup is huge by anyone’s standards with a host of our headline summer residents all together under one roof. There’s a rare UK appearance from Groove Armada and we’re welcoming back Simian Mobile Disco and Joris Voorn after stellar sets at our last New Year show (hard to believe that was almost a year ago!).

Check out our latest radio show with an exclusive live mix from Groove Armada on the Space Terraza recorded during the summer.

The resident theme continues into the smaller but perfectly formed 103 room. Disco-house doyens PBR Streetgang are joined by Jem Haynes and Ian Blevins for what will be the debut of their Second Line project.

You’ll find ticket’s for this event, here.

We Love Vitalik – Summer 2011 Compilation by jozif & Ryan O’Gorman

Wednesday, September 21st, 2011

Way back in June (yes, so long ago) we started to let loose the 10,000 copies of this year’s annual compilation into the wild streets, bars, cars, apartments and villas these one-off musical souvenirs now call home. The We Love CD has become something of a collectable item over the past few years by the policy of giving something back to the people who make We Love what it is, you party starters, instigators and all round obliging, open minded crowd which are the essence of our party.

Be bear aware

Past labels who have contributed to the cause include Lawler’s Viva and Lawson’s 2020Vision but this time we chose to take on a less established but highly dynamic label Vitalik with a unique concept of a compilation consisting of entirely unreleased material. Unreleased is not to say unknown though, you’ll find plenty of We Love stalwarts from across the musical spectrum we create at Space, including The Mole, Appleblim and Martin Buttrich. There’s even a super limited vinyl release of these very three artists which you might just find in your local record emporium if you are quick enough. In all likelihood, you haven’t managed to get your hands on and ears round the physical version of the compilation, so we’ve handily put it up on mixcloud for your listening pleasure. There’s also the ever necessary DJ sympathetic unmixed version available from beatport et al.

We Love… Vitalik by We Love Space on Mixcloud

The mix itself was crafted by label boss / creepy uncle Ryan O’Gorman and We Love resident / wayward nephew jozif. Expect sultry grooves, colossal bass and an overall undercurrent of deep, driving house. The mix has been found to work with varying but always positive degrees of success on speedboat soundsystems, through underwater swimming pool speakers as well as through an iPod as you make your way back from these balearic climes to wherever it is you call home. Jozif’s debut as resident this year has been full of vigor yet always with that glassy sheen the terrace warm up needs – come see his last set of the summer this Sunday, September 25th.

Check the video below to understand the label’s place in shaping a musical landscape in Ibiza. Follow Vitalik on twitter.

WE LOVE CLOSING FIESTA EXTRAVAGANZA

Saturday, September 10th, 2011

Endings can be bitter-sweet but it’s a blockbuster day of the highest order for the closing party on September 25th. It’s down to heavy hitters Fatboy Slim and 2manydjs on La Terraza along with favourites Joris Voorn, Jem Haynes, Jason Bye and Ian C. There’s a triumphant return for Aphex Twin to the Discoteca after a performance last year already firmly in the annals of Ibiza folklore. Closing out his 10th season in Ibiza will be James Zabiela joined by Technasia, jozif and DJ Rephlex.

Expect big carefree vibes with Rock Nights on the Sunset Terrace with Rob Da Bank, Colin Peters and Andy Carroll. Once the sun goes down it’s After Dark with a special audio-visual showcase featuring DJ Cheeba, Soundcrash DJs and Mr Doris. Tirk Records are back for a final soiree in El Salon with Homoelectric’s Jamie Bull, Ben Terry and Matty J. As is becoming tradition, Clive Henry is on board in the Red Box for the closing along with Alex Arnout, Coley, Ryan O’Gorman and Scott Martin. Taking things to the break of dawn (and probably beyond) on the Green Valley Terrace is Alfredo, Ian Blevins, Jamie ‘Fatneck’ and Jon Howell.

Facebook event page here.

jozif – Resident Advisor Podcast

Monday, November 29th, 2010

jozif, all round rising star of house has just dropped the latest mix in the acclaimed Resident Advisor series of podcasts. It’s a satisfying, meandering journey through his own productions, remixes and re-edits, perfectly suited to home listening which we like. Since the start of summer when he appeared for an opening set in the Discoteca, jozif has become one of the most in demand upcoming DJs on the London scene, while gaining releases and plaudits with the likes of Wolf + Lamb, Vitalik and his own imprint he’s recently started with fellow fabric resident Craig Richards, the experimental, highly limited and fantastically titled Fist or Finger.

He’s continually impressed us with both his productions and sets, so much so that we’ll hopefully have him back for more and beyond next summer. He was even good enough to do the sound design for our international tour promo videos, have a look here. Check out the man himself with some insight into his world of production along with Prins Thomas and Minilogue in the video below.

jozif – Coca Grande (Mole’s MMD Mix)

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

A surreal account of genital surgery and general misadventure with The Mole. The soundtrack features a new release from our friends at Vitalik recordings, with amigos jozif and The Mole himself. Available from all good download stores and vinyl distributors.

Vitalik Recording was set up by Ryan O Gorman in 2009, its prevoius incarnation and namesake was synonymous with various forms of underground resistance and clandestine parties across Ibiza and thoughout London. Now with its sole agenda of releasing quality electronic music from upcoming artists; teaming them up with the most highly respected and talented producers trans genre; it focuses its energy firmly on good music and talent rather than a specific sound. Look out for a special Vitalik label night on Sunday August 8th this summer.

We Love… Making Music

Saturday, July 10th, 2010

Cosmic disco doyen Prins Thomas discusses the vagaries of process versus result in making music. New kid in the Discoteca jozif on the importance of crafting a sound. Philosophical Swedes Minilogue profess artistic inspiration comes from being a human being and someone has to play Joris Voorn‘s records.

Featuring performances from Prins Thomas, Joris Voorn and Jeff Mills.

We Love… Savana Potente – Die Musik Ist Kollektive Vorstellungswelt

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

Pope Benedict XVI (Joseph Ratzinger to his friends) had to contend with not being the only famous son / daughter of Germany in Torino, Italy last weekend. In conjunction with our friends at Savana Potente; Ellen Allien, Marcel Dettmann and Ben Klock flew in from Berlin to sample local cuisine and indulge in a techno marathon taking place over two clubs in the historic city. Here is a taster of the film we’ve made of the night (and day) with some screen shots to whet your appetite…

Like all good nights in Italy, it began with fine food

Queue in the park outside Chalet Del Valentino

Marcel Dettmann in the mix

Smiles everywhere!

Dania questioning Marcel Dettmann

Love from the crowd for Ellen Allien

Location for the after hours...

Ben Klock plays at the after party by the river

Have a look at this short video created to promote the event online. The soundtrack is composed exclusively and originally by Jozif to complement the visuals. The musical brief was to make something that sounds like Star Trek on drugs yet is fluffy and acidic and with something four-to-the-floor for “the heads”.
