Made to Play’s Jesse Rose.
We are delighted to announce the lineup for our opening party, We Love… Space on Sunday June 12th 2011. We Love is unique in Ibiza with 6 rooms of unbridled musical excursions. Follow the linked names for videos, mixes and more.
This years opening party is set to define the Ibiza season as We Love… Space celebrate the seminal 20 Years of Planet E. Few labels have managed to stand the test of time and if they have, few can claim to be as relevant and influential as they were twenty years back. Planet E hasn’t just survived the last twenty years but positively revelled in it. Detroit techno mastermind Carl Craig will be joined by Derrick May and Paul Woolford, who have both recently presented the label with blistering releases. These masterminds will be joined by We Love weekly resident Jem Haynes to take control of the Discoteca for a rare and prestigious vinyl-only session in celebration of the label.
Meanwhile, the world famous Space Terraza plays host to James Zabiela showcasing his house sound for 2011. The Hot Chip DJs, Felix Martin and Al Doyle return for the first of their three date exclusive residency and Radio 1 current “In New DJs We Trust” favourite Heidi bringing the jackin’ sound’ o’ Chi’ Town with support from Made To Play’s Jesse Rose. Kicking off proceedings is We Love’s own Mat Playford playing a three hour live show using a customised analogue setup.
2011 brings new faces to share this summer’s series of events. Jaymo & Andy George’s label Moda host the Sunset Terrace before Mr Doris’ “Afterdark” project takes over after midnight. Ryan O’Gorman returns with The Burlington Project to host twelve intimate dates in the Redbox, the room for clued up locals and holiday-makers alike.
We Love… Easter Specials at Ministry of Sound, London on Saturday April 23rd and presented by Jaunt> and Wax:On at Digital, Newcastle on Sunday April 24th.
Ian Blevins is the segue between this and our gig in Newcastle the next day, he’s prepared a mix for the train journey you can download and listen to here.
Once again celebrating the UK’s penchant for bank holidays, We Love… head back to London and Newcastle for a double header of parties this Easter.
Saturday 23rd of April is celebrated at We Love’s home from home, Ministry of Sound in London. The main room sounds are supplied by Space favourites Simian Mobile Disco and Hot Chip‘s Felix Martin. Warming things up is Mowgli making both his MInistry Of Sound and We Love debut. Fresh from soundtracking the sunnier hours of We Love’s recent techno masterclass in Miami, Alex Niggemann will be showcasing his peak time sounds in the 103 room. Backing him up is the baby oiled Bicep and the man who spent more hours on the decks than any other at We Love Space last year, Ian Blevins.
Ian is then hitchhiking his way up the A1 to Digital, Newcastle where Jaunt and Wax:On are presenting a We Love Bank Holiday Special. Joining him at the controls is Tensnake, making a very welcome return to the We Love fold after his much eulogised debut set at Space last summer. Innervisions honcho Dixon brings a touch of Berlin to the North East of England while Nina Kravitz brings a touch of the underground. Adding the final We Love… flavours, PBR Streetgang are swapping the Space Terrace for Digital’s only slightly less balearic Terrace. Completing the lineup a whole host of Jaunt and Wax:On residents will be trying to show that locals know best.

Ian Blevins recently posted two edits under his B11′s guise to download for free from his soundcloud, they’re both slow house smooth jams and probably work well on a Sunday afternoon… There’s not much more to say as the music most definitely speaks for itself. Check em out below.
Check out the rest of Ian Blevins’ sounds on soundcloud, follow him on twitter, and even check out his official site if you are that way inclined.
A revamp of his website has coincided with an interview in the Sunderland Echo for Ian Blevins. Even if provincial, it’s good to see a more mainstream take on the usual DJ interview article you would get in a dance rag. Follow Ian Blevins on twitter and facebook. Bar Lo Cura is nestled away in the back streets in the port area of Ibiza town. It’s become famous for being a haunt for local promoters, DJs and influential holiday makers and also being nearly impossible to find without a bit of guidance. During summer months expect impromptu sets from big players as well as a selection of sterling residents such as our very own Mr Doris every Wednesday and Ian Blevins every Saturday, for what’s become a regular fixture for the barflys of Ibiza town. Proprietor, DJ, culinary dilettante and all round good guy David Phillips conjures up a friendly but not at all touristy vibe for all of those in the know.
David has put together a mix with which the title says it all really. Download the Lo Cura After Hours session here. A great introduction to his take on whatever the hell it means to be balearic these days, expect some low slung sleazy beats, chugging classics and a taste of the unexpected.
You are crazy and cured Spanish pun down
Some would say the bar itself like the 1960s in that “if you remember it, you weren’t there”, the 70s for the rock and roll aesthetic, the 80s since it’s just ever-so-slightly glamourous and the 90s for it’s acid house turn of mind. As for its 21st century leanings, we could put that down to it’s mix of experience and youth in the programming of its resident DJs through summer and uniquely in Ibiza, winter too.
If you are in the North East this festive season, once you’ve had your fill of Turkey sandwiches, head down to Digital in Newcastle where in conjunction with Jaunt> and Cleer we will be presenting from the We Love stable, Audiofly (Luca Saporito), Paul Woolford, Ian Blevins, PBR Streetgang and Lee Foss. They will be supported by stellar local residents Blackhall & Bookless, Binni, Richard Rowell, Tom Rankin and Liam Vance. We first met Blackhall & Bookless from the Jaunt> crew through this summer’s Fresh Blood competition run with the Burlington project. For anyone who was there that week in the Red Box should have a good idea of what to expect in Newcastle from these likely lads. Take a look at Blackhall & Bookless in the Language Episode from summer in Ibiza.
Luca and Anthony of Audiofly have been kind enough to provide a mix for your listening pleasure which you can download from their profile page. It was recorded live at Hebraica in Peru – tracky, techy, house music.
We’ve an ever growing selection of resident DJs who make the yearly crusade across the Mediterranean to the fair shores of the white isle so we thought it would be nice to find out what this motley bunch do for the rest of the year. To start off the trend (something he’s getting used to) is Ian Blevins, mumbler, party starter and taste maker extraordinaire. The busiest resident at the party he played 24 times in 16 dates often bringing two sets of records to cater for the different rooms he would play in one night at We Love Space. One of the few people who after a summer on the island we are genuinely interested to know what on earth he is doing now. Like a warped Attenborough documentary it would be interesting to see him out of his natural balearic environment. He’s provided a mix which you can click on the left or on soundcloud and download direct in high quality MP3 direct from his profile page. You can get a pretty good idea of everything he’s been spinning everywhere from beach bars to superclubs and everything inbetween this summer.
So, where is Ian Blevins?
For the past two winters you’ve chased the sun on the well trodden Ibiza / Sydney pilgrimage, this time you’ve opted for the glamourous North East English riviera. How’s that working out for you?
The weather is sublime and the temperature as well. It’s like I’ve never left Ibiza really. So far so good. This winter I’m planning to make a move over to Manchester with a bit of luck at some point. It’s somewhere I’ve never lived before but a city I really like. Plus it’s pretty close to every major city in the England which should be beneficial as well. The last two winters have been great travelling and working in Australasia and Asia but the quality of music and clubbing on a week in, week out basis doesn’t come to close to the UK. So I’ve decided to knuckle down here, trying to progress with my production work as well as listen and travel to as many good nights as possible in the UK and Europe. We’ll see how that works out. Though if anyone wants to fly me somewhere warm for a few days or a week I’d give the request some serious consideration.
In the past your mixes have drawn inspiration from subjects as diverse as the strategic location of carpet shops and the hallucinogenic properties of cheese. This time it’s the more prosaic ‘summer in Ibiza’. How much does your location determine the music you play?
The location and time that I play has the most influence on what music I choose and how to put that music together. Whether it be peak time upstairs on the Etage or early doors on the terrace, I always try and look at what I play in the context of the entire night’s programing. With the mixes I’ve done I always program them to be listened to in their entirety, and hopefully fit into whatever space and time is the most relevant to that mix and the person / people listening (preferably 6am in the morning with a half bottle of Hierbas). With this mix I’ve tried to pick a selection of my favourite records from the summer and stick them into an order that works. Which wasn’t easy as the list was as long as my arm, and that’s no mean feat as I have one of the longest elbows on the north eastern coast.
There are endless interviews with Ibiza natives and visitors alike, asking about their favourite beaches, restaurants, football pitches, etc. so we’re not going to ask you about that. As a DJ you obviously have some time on your hands when you’re not making or listening to music, what does one do to entertain themselves in and around wherever the hell you are now?
I’ve always find it hard to get bored anywhere really, as there’s always something that can be done, even on these dreary shores. I do enjoy reading and watching films / tv. Just about to move onto Peter Godwins ‘When a Crocodile Eats the Sun‘ when I get through Anthony Beavors ‘Stalingard’. And on the film score the last one I watched was ‘The Secret in Their Eyes (El Secreto de Sus Ojos)’. So I’ve been getting stuck into that lot. I’m trying to expand my cooking skills as well, continue my slow progress of learning the spanish language and once or twice try to have a game of what the Americans might call, Soccerball. That and a keen interest in drinking pints and ‘smerking’ tabs, which is probably the number 1 past time in my region. Im sure that’s not begrudged in Manchester neither, which is nice.
