Recent balearic visitors and purveyors of all things analogue-house Bicep are heading North to the fair city of Newcastle on Octboer 1st for upstart night That Old Chestnut. Accompanying them will be our own Ian Blevins and a motley assortment of other local residents.
For this instalment the night will be housed in The Kitchen, the second room of underground club The Den. In search of intimacy they are opening only that room and strictly limiting tickets to 150 so don’t sleep on this one. It’s a small, perfectly proportioned and atmospheric space with the decks sitting on an old chest freezer – promising to be a unique night indeed.
We Love… Easter Specials at Ministry of Sound, London on Saturday April 23rd and presented by Jaunt> and Wax:On at Digital, Newcastle on Sunday April 24th.
Ian Blevins is the segue between this and our gig in Newcastle the next day, he’s prepared a mix for the train journey you can download and listen to here.
Continuing the spiralling feel-my-thunder-bicep-club love-in this blog is quickly becoming we invite you to check out Red Light Theory on April 15th at Stereo in Glasgow. Feel My Bicep and Thunder Disco Club are joining forces to present a night of raw lust, red lights and sexploitation. Special guests Dead Rose Music Company round up this forbidden union of roguish beats and dancefloor treats. So, go join the post-blog (or is that blog post) disco insurrection.
There’s a facebook event dooda whatsit page thing here.
Once again celebrating the UK’s penchant for bank holidays, We Love… head back to London and Newcastle for a double header of parties this Easter.
Saturday 23rd of April is celebrated at We Love’s home from home, Ministry of Sound in London. The main room sounds are supplied by Space favourites Simian Mobile Disco and Hot Chip‘s Felix Martin. Warming things up is Mowgli making both his MInistry Of Sound and We Love debut. Fresh from soundtracking the sunnier hours of We Love’s recent techno masterclass in Miami, Alex Niggemann will be showcasing his peak time sounds in the 103 room. Backing him up is the baby oiled Bicep and the man who spent more hours on the decks than any other at We Love Space last year, Ian Blevins.
Ian is then hitchhiking his way up the A1 to Digital, Newcastle where Jaunt and Wax:On are presenting a We Love Bank Holiday Special. Joining him at the controls is Tensnake, making a very welcome return to the We Love fold after his much eulogised debut set at Space last summer. Innervisions honcho Dixon brings a touch of Berlin to the North East of England while Nina Kravitz brings a touch of the underground. Adding the final We Love… flavours, PBR Streetgang are swapping the Space Terrace for Digital’s only slightly less balearic Terrace. Completing the lineup a whole host of Jaunt and Wax:On residents will be trying to show that locals know best.

We’ve recently updated the DJ profiles section of our main site so you can check out latest tracks from soundcloud of many artists we feature as well as any videos they are featured in from our archive and any mixes available to download. Take a look, some good examples would be… Four Tet, Bottin and Bicep.
We’re off to Trilogy in Dubai on Thursday 17th March, a club which is quickly gaining a reputation for quality bookings in what can be a tough part of the world to crack. James Zabiela will bring his blended brand of bleepy, groovy, deep electronica to the UAE alongside fellow We Lover Thomas Gandey (Cagedbaby). Now a mainstay of Discoteca and Terraza alike, James is sure to electrify the Trilogy terrace just as he does to dancefloors worldwide. The balearic spirit will be brought to the table by godfather of the beat, Alfredo and his We Love percussion compadre Ian C. They will surely transport the sound of our hallowed Sunset Terrace to the balmy Arabian night. Up’n'comers Bicep will be rounding this diverse lineup set to bring a taste of We Love to Dubai for the first time.
Our workout buddies Bicep have an increasingly hectic schedule regularly flitting between East End gym’s and Middle Eastern bathhouses. They have however, managed to find the time to unite with Serge and Tom’s Retro/Grade in creating a 3 song party-starting 12″ of epic proportion. Below is a ‘live’ version of the title track Darwin, on the flip side of the record you can find Retro/Grade’s monumental italo stomp version. Read more about the release and get links to buy on the Bicep site, here.
In other news, Bicep’s next public showing will be alongside Neville Watson at Dalston Superstore. You can find information about that on facebook. Follow Bicep on twitter.
Production duo Retro/Grade have recently uploaded their essential mix to soundcloud for your listening pleasure. It’s very dynamic with a cinematic feel from end to end. You can see the full tracklist here. You’ll find office faves Bicep with their track Darwin (Retro/Grade Edit) somewhere around the middle of the mix.
Hopefully some of you are still partying down, dawn of the dead style and needing something extra than you are getting from the wireless. The Bicep boys have dipped out of their gym session to delve into the horrific depths of film scores, rarities and their own productions to bring you this hellish mixtape. The soundcloud version is an hour and a half but check their blog for the monstrous 3 hour mix of treats and tricks. The illustration below is by Paul X Johnson.
