Brooklyn born Blondes are embarking on a European tour taking in 12 countries in a little over just 2 weeks. They were a stunning (but not unexpected) hit at We Love Space in summer when they supported Caribou. There’s some appetizing dates on the flyer with Berlin’s Panoramabar (Feb 11th) and Barcelona’s Razzmatazz (Feb 25th) looking particularly tasty. There’s only a couple of UK dates but they’ll be back for more in March.
They’ve just released a debut album after a slew of well-received 12″s which have been eked out over the past few months. It’s a triumph of progressive (but not too proggy) dance music, and features a remix disc comprising of many of our own favourite producers du jour including Bicep, Teengirl Fantasy and JD Twitch of Optimo fame. You can stream the album in it’s entirety below and buy from RVNG INTL. Expect a return to Ibiza for Blondes in summer 2012.
In what’s fast becoming an institution in West Yorkshire, Jamie ‘Fatneck‘ Low is bringing his buddy Greg Wilson to Huddersfield on Boxing Day for his annual Kitchen Sink Disco bash. They’ve moved to a bigger venue in the form of Cotton Factory after sardine like conditions last year.
Incase you are not aware (which disco deficiency rock have you been hiding under) Greg Wilson is something of a high priest of the re-edit scene. He’s been rocking floors since you were in short trousers everywhere from the Haçienda to Ministry and of course We Love Space. Expect the biggest, best, unabashed party vibes.
As an extra-special treat, Fatneck has invited Big L & Roo Dog for their UK debut. Traveling respectively from South and North for this special show, it will have been many months since they laid eyes on each other. Word has it that Big L is hoping Roo Dog has learned to mix in key and Roo Dog is hoping Big L has had a haircut. In honour of Jamie, his good lady Rebecca and the arrival of what will be West Yorkshire’s youngest disco aficionado, they’ve created this mix.
It’s time to welcome the turning of the Mayan Long Count calendar. With that in mind we’ve lined up two showcases of the best of We Love on both sides of the border. First up is one of the biggest annual party’s in Scotland, Hogmanay in Edinburgh where the whole centre of town is taken over for a street party. Things will be warmer in the Liquid Room where Julio Bashmore, jozif, Deetron and a host of local residents are set to welcome in the bells with style. You’ll find tickets, here.
Check out this video made by the capable hands of Jocie Cox featuring jozif and the story behind his summer residency on the We Love Space terrace.
Next up we’re jumping on the east coast main line down to join a host of We Love stalwarts at our London home, Ministry of Sound. The lineup is huge by anyone’s standards with a host of our headline summer residents all together under one roof. There’s a rare UK appearance from Groove Armada and we’re welcoming back Simian Mobile Disco and Joris Voorn after stellar sets at our last New Year show (hard to believe that was almost a year ago!).
Check out our latest radio show with an exclusive live mix from Groove Armada on the Space Terraza recorded during the summer.
The resident theme continues into the smaller but perfectly formed 103 room. Disco-house doyens PBR Streetgang are joined by Jem Haynes and Ian Blevins for what will be the debut of their Second Line project.
After a few years absence from the Manchester party circuit we are very pleased to be back at The Warehouse Project hosting something of an Ibiza closing party. For this special event we have invited some of our favourite acts from this Summer’s Space residents and guests.
Now in his tenth year as a We Love… resident, technical maestro James Zabiela headlines the event. Joining him is the true godfather of techno Derrick May. Nic Fanciuli makes a welcome return to the We Love fold and is joined by Ralph Lawson’s full live band 2020Soundsystem. Next up we have Geddes and newly initiated We Love resident jozif. Completing the line up Jem Haynes and Mat Playford bring the sounds of the Space Discoteca and Terrace respectively to the Picadilly car park.
All the signs are pointing towards a busy day/night for the We Love Space closing party, so get down early to enjoy the extravagance of Rock Nights on the Sunset Terrace. From doors opening at 4:30 there’ll be stalwart residents Andy Carrolland Colin Peters getting things going, a live PA from ZaZa and Rob Da Bank bringing his Sunday best. Party like a rock star, the star guest is you!
Check the video below for a glimpse their Tiki themed party last month…
Recent balearic visitors and purveyors of all things analogue-house Bicep are heading North to the fair city of Newcastle on Octboer 1st for upstart night That Old Chestnut. Accompanying them will be our own Ian Blevins and a motley assortment of other local residents.
For this instalment the night will be housed in The Kitchen, the second room of underground club The Den. In search of intimacy they are opening only that room and strictly limiting tickets to 150 so don’t sleep on this one. It’s a small, perfectly proportioned and atmospheric space with the decks sitting on an old chest freezer – promising to be a unique night indeed.
Prior to our summer closing party on September 24th at our London home Ministry of Sound, there’s a river bound excursion involving a couple of We Love residents. It’s probably impossible to find a more suitable duo to fare the river waters… Tickets are available here for the very reasonable price of twenty English pounds, including entry into Ministry of Sound afterwards.
WILLARD: “I was being ferried down the coast in a Navy PBR, a type of plastic patrol boat, pretty common sight on the rivers. They said it was a good way to pick up information without drawing lot of attention. That was OK, I needed the air and the time. Only problem was I wouldn’t be alone.”
RADIO: “PBR Streetgang, this is Almighty, over… This is Almighty, standing by, over. This is Almighty, how do you copy, over…”
Jamie Fatneck will also be making a waterway appearance.
There’s a late addition to the Tirk/Pool hosted El Salon for the closing party on Sunday September 25th. El Harvo aka Dave Harvey aka one third of the Future Boogie collective will be joining Ben Terry, Matty J and Jamie Bull of Manchester party Homoelectric to the most à-la-mode back room in Ibiza. This summer, Tirk and the Pool have brought a diverse selection of artists to Space, from the Trojan Soundsystem of Earl Gateshead to the Italo horror disco of Bottin. In the true spirit of We Love, expect a disregard for a rigid music policy – but with dancing a priority – disco-sleaze, trashy-funk, foreign pop and good people.
Check out this suitably titled summer mix below from El Harvo himself…
On the eve of our Space closing party we kick things of in London at our UK base Ministry of Sound. Special guest Guy Gerber makes his We Love debut and is joined by long time We Love resident and Space favourite Paul Woolford. Riva Starr impressed so much at our gig in Holland that we’ve invited him back for this gig too. Mat Playford brings his live set-up to The Box completing the lineup for that room
In the 103 we’re very please to welcome Leeds lads PBR Streetgang and Huddersfield’s finest Jamie Fatneck. Also appearing are tech-house upstarts Prince Club.
Ever the keen supporters of fresh talent the Fresh Blood project continues this Sunday when we invite likely lads Blackhall & Bookless from Jaunt>, Newcastle and Matt from Leeds based promotion mono_cult to the REd Box. Jaunt> continues to be one of the most forward thinking nights going on in the North East and have recent forays and collaborations with the likes of Asylum in Leeds, a series of secret events in London and not to mention our own festivities which are happening on an increasingly regular basis in the Toon. They also host a fantastic series of podcasts, our pick of which you can check out here. Have a listen to Blackhall’s dulcet tones from this episode, first broadcast on Sunderland’s Spark FM and Ibiza Radio Sonica.
