Josh Gordon is quickly rising the fashionista / art ranks in Dublin after his inspired ‘pop-up’ shop rapidly sold out of his limited run, bespoke clothing range. We’ve been fans of his blog and photography work for a while and with Yoda like prescience, good things in the future we do see for this one. Don’t fret if you didn’t make it down to the Temple Bar store, as you can find some of the range to buy online via his Big Cartel page.

Hopefully Josh will be over to We Love Space in September to shoot some rolls and capture the island in his own inimitable style. Meanwhile, enjoy these shots of the store, the clothes and the pretty people…

Jeff Mills / Gamma Player / Axis Records – Sunglasses

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011

We all know Jeff Mills is more than just techno. He has an unearthly ability to raise the art of DJing and electronic production above the ordinary. You may be aware of boutique fashion line Gamma Player he operates with Yoko Uozumi from Chicago. They’ve just released a line of sunglasses for Mills’ record label Axis. Living in Ibiza a marriage of one of our favourite artists and one of life’s necessities can only be a good thing.

The name Gamma Player by Mills’ own definition references one of his tracks from the early 90′s and means “risk-taker” or “cosmic-adventurer”. There is often a backlash from fans when an artist moves into new areas of study (remember the lampoon inducing Richly.Hawtin label?). Jeff however seems to strike the fine balance between experimentation and sincerity, in any case these shades are pretty spiffy.

Best of five

They’re available now via Axis Records priced at $100 plus shipping isn’t too bad at all for your own piece of musical haute couture. We’ve ordered a pair for Big L to rock while Jeff’s spinning in the sunshine of Miami. Undoubtedly, there’ll be a few pairs worn at night during the coming summer season in Ibiza too.

Guide To The Cults

Wednesday, January 26th, 2011

In the vein of our guide on how to behave at a disco or restaurant here is a guide on various sub-cultures from what we can only guess is from the late 70s or early 80s. Maybe someone could make one for our more current musical tribes? Dubsteppers, deep-housers, daggerers…

I Hurt I Am In Fashion

Wednesday, January 19th, 2011

Sardonic truisms mock and euologise the fashion world with eye-opening results. Great fashion blog I HURT I AM IN FASHION. Thanks to Miss W for the heads up.

IT SEEMED REMARKABLE HOW ACCURATELY THE LIST REFLECTED WHAT THE INDUSTRY INSTILLS IN EVERY YOUNG GIRL.

reVOLVER Secret Sale

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010

Our friends Catherine and JP Sanchez from chic boutique reVOLVER are having an end of season sale on Thursday, expect bargains on everything from extrovert Vivienne Westwood to the more restrained and chic See by Chloé. It’s all available with cava, mince pies and mulled wine before items go on general sale the next day. Get down early to avoid disappointment but we won’t be anticipating Primark style scenes, hopefully.

Hush-hush

Over the summer in conjunction with Linda Farrow, reVOLVER were kind enough to provide us with enough weekly emergency sunglasses to hide our shame from the sun in the early hours. You can read more about the collaboration on Ibiza Spotlight. Catherine also took some time to talk about Ibiza and fashion in general, check the video below…

Vain Collective

Friday, May 7th, 2010

The Vain Collective is a fashion blog and resource of the chicest order. Curated by friend of the family Kellydeene Skerritt based in London. The concept is vain vs pain i.e. good veers bad. It’s full of cult labels as well as the more well known designers. There’s also a couple of articles on home-made fashion which can teach you how to customize some basic one-we-made-earlier type pieces. There’s even some fashion analysis of pop music videos to peruse too.

J'aime la discoteque

J'aime la discoteque

A fresh and alternative t-shirt label from Liverpool based graphic designer Russell Reid, Wasted Heroes striking and unique prints really caught our attention. Russell is the designer behind the legendary Liverpool club Circus and is responsible for their history of twisted and surreal flyer designs. As well as his own designs, Russell regularly uses Wasted Heroes to feature and promote up and coming artists and has collaborated with stalwart Liverpool nights Chibuku and Circus on designing their merchandise. It’s clear to see this is a brand born from passion and heavily influenced by genres of electronic and indie music.

Nike Trainers by DJ AM & DJ Premier

DJ AM Dunk High

DJ AM Dunk High

Last week saw the release of two of the most anticipated trainer collaborations in a long time. Nike Sportswear have teamed up with two true legends of the DJ community. The DJ AM dunk and the DJ Premier Air Force 1 went on general release on January 9th. A lucky few however were able to get their hands on a special edition package containing both shoes and specially designed Serato control vinyls a few days earlier. The event was attended by sneaker freaks and DJ AM and Premier fans alike with all proceeds going to the DJ AM memorial fund. Premier autographed each of the customised boxes and also pleased the crowd with an impromptu DJ set.

This isn’t the first time nike has collaborated with the music world with special editions from the likes of Dizzee rascal and Guns n Roses. One of my personal favourites however is the Dunk U.N.K.L.E or dunkle as its more popularly known. They are a collaboration with the James Lavelle, Tim Goldsworthy and DJ Shadow outfit. These Dunks, sb dunk hi, feature artwork from U.N.K.L.E album covers ‘Psyence Fiction’ and ‘Never, Never Land” and have become collectors items as, no doubt, the DJ AM and DJ Premier editions will do too.

Miles Aldridge

Miles Aldridge

Colette.fr is an online French retailer of fashion and design products. Every item seems original in a way that you wouldn’t find anywhere else – it’s one of the best shops for online artsy goods. They carry an eclectic selection of clothes, accessories, books, CDs and DVDs but most importantly for the fashionista in you, a range of fresh-off-the-runway designs, displayed before they reach the high-street. Monthly art and photography exhibitions are held at their brick and mortar store at 213, Rue Saint Honoré, 75001, Paris. They’re currently hosting photographer Miles Aldridge whose artful composition and mastery of vibrant colour has led him to appear in Vogue and the New York Times.

The design of the site is second to none and it is a treasure trove of blogs on diverse but uniformly chic subjects.

Also note that fellow French taste-makers, Dirty Soundsystem who are perhaps more serious selectors than most DJs, have provided an exclusive mix for the shop which you can download here. It’s one of our all-time favourites. We featured their blog a while back too.

Who let the optics out?

Who let the optics out?

In terms of what the shop has to offer right now, how about this Caperino & Peperone 2010 Calendar, shedding light on all the graphic forms of optical illusion. To be avoided, however, early in the morning on the first of the year…

Retro future

OK, so we know winter is approaching and shades might not be at the top of everyones list of necessities. But our friends in Australia tell us their traditional sunnies are melting in the heat.

A ode to Italian elegance, fashion and lifestyle of la vita bella. Sharp, stylish and elegant design from this sophisticated and specialized brand of sunglasses. Blending the fashionista and the futuristic, the geometric yet classic design recalls engineering and construction industries of the early 1900′s.

Handmade in Italy, they use German Zeiss lenses to ensure durability and protection in all environments. We hear our mates Pedro Winter (Busy P) and Simian Mobile Disco are fans of the brand, along with Valentino Rossi and Daft Punk.

Super, thanks for asking

Super, thanks for asking

Of the model above only 200 pieces were produced. 100 for each design. But wait! These sunglasses are so hard to find that they aren’t available anywhere. Is it a marketing strategy, is it a mistake or is it just fun?
None of the above, they have just been stolen. They were supposed to be in release today but last week unknown people broke into the DHL van while they where in delivery and stole all of the shades. The above picture is the only one available of unfinished samples

Below you’ll find a scan of the of claim made by the DHL driver to the Police:
