WE LOVE... THE YULETIDE!
 People visiting the white isle in summer may tend to leave a few kilos lighter, whether due to a non-existent appetite, excess calorie burning on the dance floor or just the fact that you’ve had to ditch half your belongings because of the evil excess luggage charges on budget airlines. Not so in the winter however – we dare anyone to come and visit without packing on a few pounds so good is the island’s culinary flair.
Now the festive season is in full swing we’ve got oysters on ice by the dozen in the Plaza Del Parque square, delicious mulled wine by the jug in local bars and cafes plus amazing homemade cakes, empanadas, sweets and even chestnuts roasting on an open fire at the local Christmas markets.
And then there’s the fun fair fare – we’re talking candy floss, hot dogs, Nutella crepes, waffles, sausages on sticks, popcorn and all the other kinds of junk that makes your stomach churn as you go upside down on rides generally reserved for those under five feet tall. Yes indeed, Ibiza has embraced the Christmas spirit complete with mini roller coasters, dodgem cars and Ferris wheels - alongside its giant nativity scene, streets bedecked with amazingly festive lights and not forgetting the second largest Christmas tree in Spain.
Here at We Love HQ, we’re looking forward to enjoying a super-sized dinner with all the trimmings at Boutique Hostal Salinas on Christmas Day before we even start thinking about making any New Years Resolutions about losing the weight we’ve porked on in December! This weekend the traveling We Love... circus continues, joining forces with Digital Duress on Saturday December 12th for a no-holds-barred end of year bash at the legendary Custard Factory in Birmingham. WE LOVE... RADIO
The December 2009 edition of the We Love... Ibiza monthly Podcast features highlights from Funkagenda’s amazing set – never before broadcast until now - on the Sunset Terrace recorded on 30th August 2009. The atmosphere on the night was incredible as Funkagenda played to a packed room in the peak of the Ibiza summer season. We also feature two new tracks selected for us by Mr. Doris who is currently holding down a three-month residency in Bahrain plus we have a track from We Love... guests DeepGroove. WE LOVE... TOM GANDEY AKA CAGED BABY INTERVIEW
Think acid-house superhero meets new romantic. Neil Tennant meets Fatboy Slim. Influenced by everything from Talking Heads to Toto, it’s music that pops out of the speaker with a martini in its hand. But why the name? It depends, ‘You want the idealistic version or the truth? Either it’s something to do with being linked to the earth, chained to Mother Nature by an unseen umbilical chord or I chose it because my releases would end up being next to the Chemical Brothers in the racks at HMV. Either way if you type it into Google you get lots of weird pictures of little kids behind bars.’

WE LOVE... EL CHINO, PABLO ESCOBAR’S PHOTOGRAPHER
Edgar Jimenez, aka El Chino, was a puny classmate of Pablo Escobar’s at Antioqueno Junior High School in Colombia back in the ‘60s. While Escobar used the ensuing years to become his generation’s greatest murderous drug-lord superstar, El Chino slunk off to a dull life as a local wedding photographer. But after a chance reunion in the early ‘80s, Escobar recruited El Chino to become his personal picture taker, documenting his political campaigns, his private parties, and the various goings-on at Escobar’s outlandish 4,500-acre estate, Hacienda Napoles.

WE LOVE... BACKSTAGE RIDERS
The contract rider includes specifications on stage design, sound systems, lighting rigs, as well as an artist’s wish list – from transportation and billing to dressing room accommodations and meals. In some cases, a promoter will refuse a demand (crossing out the request on the document), though stars usually get what they want, whether it’s clean boxer shorts (Jane’s Addiction), a large selection of top-shelf liquors (Frank Sinatra), or an arrangement of adult magazines i.e. Penthouse, Playboy (Guns N’ Roses)...

Hailing from Oslo, balErik has gained a big following in Norway and judging by the mix he sent us, we can see why. Inspired by a set he played in a New York club, his mix has that classic house sound that ultimately became synonymous with the Ibiza music scene. This mixed with some more modern techno tipped tracks lends itself to a great mix and a very deserving Fresh Blood winner. We Love... balErik!
